Jo Harrow - Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the time-tested therapy that has been practised in the Far East for over two thousand years. The philosophy behind the treatment is that energy lines, iknown as meridians, which contain our energy flow or 'qi', circulate around the body.  It is when this qi is impaired through the body that imbalance and illness occur.

With the insertion of fine needles at various points on the meridian, the energy can be moved or redirected to where it is needed most.  In this way the body's balance can be restored and the illness resolved.

This flow of energy can be disrupted in mnay ways; emotional upset, physical trauma, poor diet, or overwork are all common examples.  By examining this underlying cause and how it has affected the body, the most appropriate treatment for the patient can be identified.

It's understandable with our often hectic and busy lives, how energy can become stagnant or blocked causing us no end of issues such as headaches, backache, shoulder pain, arthritis, digestive discorders, hight blood pressure and fertility difficulties.

This remarkable ancient Chinese therapy helps to rebalance the body's energy, in turn creating a space for health to return.

About Jo

I have worked as a midwife for 25 years and completed my training in Acupuncture 7 years ago.  I was initially drawn to acupuncture after experiencing profound healing on a personal level and was fascinated as to how this ancient therapy worked.

Having worked for many years using the Western medical approach to health has certainly helped my practice as an Acupucturist.  People often come to my clinic with very complex health issues, and feel reassured that I have a medical background that helps put their situation into context and with devising an appropraite treamtment plan for them.

My clients find the space created during the sessions as comfortable and relaxing.  They often fall asleep when the needles are in place and the infra-red heat lamp is on!  The acupuncture helps to ground them, and they leave the clinic feeling a little lighter and taller, and certainly very zen!

What I have found through my experiences with people over the years is that when their treatment is approached holistically, Chinese medicine truly shines in its unique ability to reach beyond, seeing people as part of natiure.  Beautiful, complex ecosystems of body, mind and spirit, worthy of reverence.  When I meet my clients from this holistic perspective, all kinds of healing can happen.
